Cataract is cloudiness of the natural lens in the eyes. The natural lens inside the eye is transparent and helps to focus light rays entering the eye to create a clear image. This lens can become cloudy with age, or due to certain medications, or eye diseases. The cloudiness of the lens or cataract distorts the light entering the eye and affects the quality of vision.

Cataract surgery involves removal of the cloudy lens and replacement with a clear artificial lens called IOL(intraocular lens).
There are different lens options for you to choose from ranging from basic or standard monofocal IOL to an advanced multifocal IOL, and astigmatism corrections IOL.
Monofocal IOLs: I These IOls improve vision at a set distance of your choice- either far or mid range or near only
Advanced multifocal IOLs: They improve vision at all distance and reduce the need for readers.
Astigmatism correction IOLs: These correct or reduce astigmatism.
Your surgeon will discuss different options with you to help you choose a lens that is best suited for your lifestyle, visual needs and preferences.
