What is Cross Linking (CXL)?

Cross Linking is a procedure to strengthen a cornea a weak cornea like keratoconus. The goal of the treatment is to prevent further progression of Keratoconus by halting or slowing the changes.

How is the procedure done?

The procedure begins with de-epithelialization to gently remove a thin layer of surface cells after numbing the eye. A combination of Riboflavin drops and UVA is then used to treat the cornea . the entire procedure takes about an hour to hour and fifteen minutes.

Will Cross linking improve my vision?

No, it does not improve vision.

Cross linking is intended to strengthen the cornea, by increasing the bonds between the collagen fibers that make the bulk of the cornea. You will still need to continue wear glasses or contact lens after the procedure.
